Theoretical Underpinning of BCP
As Counsellor and Integrative Child Psychotherapists we hold in mind different psycho-analytic, humanistic and cognitive behavioural theories to support the nature of our work with children and those supporting them. We recognise the huge importance of the child’s/adults relationship to his or her primary attachments and will hold in mind ways to best nurture these relationships. We all get in a muddle sometimes and have difficulties we need help with.
We also use neuro-science to support our thinking, and help the child to cognitively process what is happening for them emotionally. We know that persistent mis-attunement, neglectful or abusive parenting for extended periods of time and unresolved trauma affects the hardwiring and psycho biochemical balances in the child’s brain this can prevent the healthy internalisation of relationships and necessary developmental stages.
